Heat Resistant Powder Coating at Wright Coating Technologies

The powder coating process uses dry, free-flowing powder that is applied either by fluidized bed or electrostatically. When the coating is cured under heat, it forms into a much more rugged coating than conventional paint, and has a very aesthetically pleasing, durable finish. Sometimes you need more than just traditional powder coating – that’s where Heat Resistant Powder Coating comes in. It’s even more rugged and durable in its ability to resist abrasion and corrosion. Heat Resistant Powder Coating can withstand heat up to 1200°F.

Chrome plating is a process that is used to electroplate an object with a thin layer of chromium. The technique’s full name, hexavalent chromium plating, sheds light on one of its major disadvantages. Hexavalent chromium is a potent and toxic form of chromium that is heavily regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency. Heat Resistant Powder Coating: Is It Right for My Project?

During testing, our heat resistant powder coating was tested at 1100°F and with 240 hours of exposure to salt and humidity. The result was that the coating contained most of its color and gloss and showed no signs of cracking or degrading.

In 1979 Allen Wright opened the doors of Wright Coating Company and started with two vinyl plastisol dipping lines. Since then our ability to coat with PVC has improved and expanded. We have added Powder Coating s and then expanded into Nylon 11. We are able to coat plastisol with our computer controlled dipping process or electrostatically. After we got comfortable with those we created our own proprietary processes: ClassicKote and Wrylon.

What's the Deal with Powder Coating?

What exactly is Powder Coating?

There are two types: Thermoplastic Powder and Thermoset Polymer. Thermoplastic Powder is generally applied with a fluidized bed process. First, the part is heated to a temperature above the melting point of the powder. Then, the heated part is dipped into a pool of free-flowing powder. As the part is dipped the powder around it melts and forms a smooth homogenous bond coating the surface. It can also be applied with an electrostatic spray process, where the part is heated to a temperature above the melting point of the powder, and then the powder is sprayed onto the heated part. The powder, upon contact, will melt onto the part and form a strong coating.
